About Me

Raewyn Higgins Counsellor, Wife, Mother, Gardener, Lover-of-Roses
These are a few of my favourite things, roles and relationships!
I am Tauranga-based counsellor with 14 years experience. In my private practice, I work with both men and women, couples and teenagers.
Inner work is vulnerable and courageous. It requires time and work, but it is so worth it for the fruits of healing and growth. I absorb this wisdom from my garden as well as from my counselling room.
My husband, Grant and I have established gardens together throughout our married life. I inherited a love of roses from my Dad, who would characteristically turn up with buckets of roses in the boot, in various stages of bud and bloom.
An arrangement of home-grown flowers will grace the table in most of my counselling sessions. This reflects my trauma-informed appreciation for the soothing qualities of beauty and is also a connection with my heritage and wairua.

My Approach to Counselling
Whenever I begin a counselling relationship, an imaginative scene opens up in my background awareness.
I lay out a quilt on a pretty, grassy slope in comfortable sunshine with water nearby. These natural surroundings provide a soothing backdrop to a private and meaningful conversation.
A fence surrounds this area, meaning boundaries are protected and entry is by a gate at our discretion. We breathe freely and relax into the safety this atmosphere provides. You are accepted just as you are.
This metaphorical scene invites healing resources. It allows protected time and space for all that you bring to be gently welcomed, explored and understood.
